Back in the Evergreen State
After a VERY long drive, I'm back in the greater Seattle area. The trip went well, with the exception of an asshole cop in Virginia giving me a ticket for speeding to keep from being rear-ended by some guy who wanted to go faster than I was willing to. Which is annoying, because it was one of those tickets I could have gotten dropped in court...if I wanted to return to Virginia (the backwoods part) to go to said court a month after returning to Washington. Which would be stupid based on the fine being much less than the plane ticket. It really pisses me off that so many police departments seem to be financially dependant on out of state drivers not being able to fight tickets. You can get a lawyer, but they know the fine is small enough that legal representation would probably cost more.
Anyways, other than that, nothing bad happened. New Orleans is still trashed, although the french quarter smells better and is generally cleaner than it was before Katrina. Canal street is still mostly boarded up, and it gets worse the further from the quarter and (I would imagine) other tourist areas you get. Sad really, it was a great city.
Got to hang out with some friends I haven't seen in a long time, years in most cases. That was pretty cool.
Found an apartment, got a new computer, took care of most of my other necessary tasks. Now I'm on the job hunt phase, which for the most part is looking good. I'm completely switching careers here, but I am quite capable of learning new things, applying prior skills to new tasks, and doing a good job of it all once that phase is done with. Keep that in mind, potential employers...give a guy with little to no experience a chance here. Willing to learn, willing to do it to the best of my abilities - and those abilities will only get better. I've got a few leads, and some good allies in my search.
Anyways, gotta go for now. The hunt continues...
