Intermission
Yeah, it's been a while. I figured I'd throw in a little update of what I've been up to, with probably another entry after christmas with my x-mas loot.
I've been pretty busy the last few months. I've been prepping for my return to civilian life...pretty soon I will no longer be a Search and Rescue specialist for the Coast Guard and will instead be in the computer field. Been trying to complete my current college classes as well, which I am almost done with. Not the degree, as I have more classes to take when I get back home, but HTML/XML is done and Database Applications is almost complete.
We found out that my girl has Lupus, which was pretty scary at first, but now that we are learning more about it it's manageable. It was caught pretty early, so not too much damage has been done, but it is there. She is handling it pretty well. I am sad that I am leaving her here though, even more so with that revelation...she won't be coming out to Seattle with me for a while. Her choice, not mine, as I pretty much have to go in a couple months and she is not yet ready to leave. She will be coming, just not for a while.
Also in medical news I have obstructive sleep apnea. Essentially my airway closes at night and I stop breathing, then my brain wakes me up to breathe. This keeps me from reaching REM sleep, the stage where you dream and get most of your rest, so I am always tired and fatigued. I now use a CPAP machine, which forces air pressure down my throat to keep my airway open, and my sleep is a lot better now, although I am still getting used to wearing a mask while I sleep.
I also just turned 30. It feels odd knowing I am no longer a twenty something. On the good side, I got some good loot: a Demon Hunters Handbook, which is a neat book about monsters made to look as though it were written by Abraham Van Helsing of Dracula fame, and a Darth Vader Force FX Lightsaber. I'm not allowed to turn on the lightsaber when my girl is home...literally if I turn it on downstairs while she is upstairs I quickly hear 'Turn it off, Dork' being yelled down the stairs. She isn't really into Star Wars. I love it though...I now have Vader's red saber and Luke's green one. On the downside, my mom notified me on my birthday (she didn't want to) that my cat of 15 years, Dodger, was going to have to be put to sleep due to kidney failure. He had been living at my mom's place and I've only seen him a couple days a year for the last 6 years or so due to my moving around a lot. I wish I could have taken him around with me but he was an indoor and outdoor cat, which means I would have to keep him inside all the time when I moved so he wouldn't get lost in a new area and he wouldn't have been happy. I was really hoping to see him again when I got home, he was an awesome cat. RIP, Dodge.
Anyways, I'll blog again after christmas with my loot and such. I have a lot of stuff I still need to do towards my upcoming change of career and location, but I'll get into that more later.
