Been awhile...
Ok, so I slacked off on blogging. I've been busy.
I finished all my classes for this semester, just have the finals left to take. I'm pretty stoked about that, as it means soon I can get started on the next semesters classes and be that much closer to my degree.
Made my notifications at work that I am most likely leaving the service next year. Also had some unrelated problems, but cleared that up. Season is about half over now, which is a good thing.
Been going out a bit more lately. It's been fun and I've met some new people.
Went with Apok to the Sounds of the Underground tour. It was hot as a mofo - hit at least 100 that day. Luckily I had an Under Armour polywicking tshirt, which made it seem a little cooler...some fucker left gum on the back of a seat though, so I have to get that out of it. I'll break the show down for you by band:
Municipal Waste - Local band to the Baltimore area, apparently they will 'fuck you up'. That's what their banner said at least, and the lyrics of one of their songs. Not a bad band at all, but I am still trying to figure out if the chant of 'Municipal Waste Will Fuck You Up' is a warning about how tough the band is or a statement about water and sewage treatment.
Dog Fashion Disco - Another local act. Not bad. Keyboardist danced around a lot and seemed like he possibly had too much sugar.
HORSE the band - Funny. Death metal, with a keyboardist who looked almost EXACTLY like Napoleon Dynamite, I shit you not. Kept telling lame jokes and stories that no one thought was funny, and seemed confused as to why no one was laughing. I'm still not sure if they were being themselves or some odd act to be a death metal band of geeks. Music was pretty good, banner was white with the bands name and a picture of a kitten...Weird for a metalcore show.
Through The Eyes of the Dead - On the bill, but didn't play for some reason.
The Chariot - Not bad, but not really memorable either. Didn't suck, at any rate.
Behemoth - These guys were pretty into it. Makeup and oversized spikes, like some sort of Kissfits death metal band, probably pretty popular from the cheers they were getting. Pretty good.
The Black Dahlia Murder - These guys were pretty cool, one of their band shirts even had Cthulhu and tentacles on it. Well played, Black Dahlia Murder.
Converge - Sucked. That's all there is to it.
Terror - Hardcore band from L.A., very cool stuff. Singer seemed oddly high on life for some reason, constantly reminding everyone that they should be happy and life was short but good and all that sort of thing, no idea what was up with that. Great music though...reminded me of old Downset, somewhat.
Cannibal Corpse - I think everyone knows who these guys are. They did a good show.
GWAR - Not as good as the last time I saw them, but probably due to having to play a shorter set than normal. Gor-Gor ate some of their slaves, a cop was impaled, the Nazi Pope was skinned alive, and Dubya was partially beheaded as 'America-Fuck Yeah' from the Team America movie played in the background. Much blood, green stuff, and blue stuff was sprayed into the pit. Ah, GWAR, you know how to rock. And kill. And cool down the fans on a hot day with sprays of goo.
Trivium - I'm guessing this was the band everyone was really there to see as I saw more Trivium shirts being worn than anything else. Pretty good stuff too, sort of hair metal Metallica style mixed with death metal vocals. Great cover of Master of Puppets.
In Flames - Some of their stuff was just ok, but a couple songs were awesome. I'll be looking into possibly getting whatever album those songs were on...I think it was called 'Voices' or somesuch.
As I Lay Dying - The big headliners. They didn't suck, but I didn't see what all the fuss was about. Meh.
I have never been to a show before where the bands had to call out types of pits they wanted, like some sort of mosh pit Twister or something. They would yell 'I want to see a Wall of Death pit!' or 'Circle Pit on this next song!'. I mean, it's a pit. You get in, you thrash around, maybe hit a few people, maybe get hit, it's fun. Why play this weird mosh by numbers game? I found that a bit odd about this show.
Go see Clerks II. You will NOT be disappointed - unless you have never been to a Kevin Smith movie and think it will be a fine family outing, then you may think otherwise. For the rest of you, check it out. I laughed my ass off the whole length of the movie.
Superman Returns wasn't bad either.
Congrats to Porkfry and his wife on their new baby girl Ivy! I think she has his eyes, no way to tell for sure until he teaches her the 'PorkBrow' technique.
That's all from me for now. Perhaps this time I'll update more often. Don't quote me on that, but it is within the realm of possibility. Much like laser weapons.
