One more week until I go to Seattle for a much needed vacation. Seriously, I don't think I ever used to be this bitter before, a sure sign I am in need of time off. I may be a few months early for PAX, but I will be hitting a certain birthday bash for the man called Porkfry. Should be good times.
Well, I do get bitter when people fuck with my comics. They are making a movie of The Watchmen. Some of us have been waiting for this for a LONG time...awesome comic, hopefully an awesome movie.
Except for one thing...from the above linked article, they are thinking of omitting or downplaying the scene with New York in ruins from an extra-dimensional being. Why? Because of 9/11. DUMB REASON. I am sick and tired of people saying 'Well, we WERE going to stick to this original thing, but we fell too many people may still be sensitive about this thing that happened in New York 3 years ago, so we are just not going to have TOO much destruction happen there.'
I say fuck that...do it how it is supposed to be done. Was New York REALLY decimated by an extra dimensional being? NO. I could see their point if the original comic sequence hinged on scenes of the giant tentacled monster destroying the World Trade Center, but it didn't. It was mostly times square if I remember correctly. If people can't handle New York city getting destroyed by random NOT REALISTIC things, they can go watch something else...New York is traditionally the stomping ground in movies and comics for massive devastation. Saying you are not going to create false devastation in a specific city because a real tragedy happened there is not going to change anything, nor do I beleive people would leave the theatre crying over the scenes that involve a HUGE MONSTER WITH ONE EYE AND TENTACLES. Leave our stories the way they were supposed to be.
Anyways, I'll stop rambling for now.
